“A year from now you will wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb
REALEST QUOTE EVER WROTE!!!
On Thursday, March 22, 2012 I got all hopped up on motivation after seeing a very inspiring YouTube video (which has since been removed). I was so motivated that I researched local gyms, chose one and went for a tour right after work. I signed up for my gym membership THAT NIGHT! Then I went home and ordered a new pair of shoes for working out.
The next day after work, I went to the gym! I was just that excited! And then I proved to myself that there is such a thing as being TOO motivated because my old shoes tore my foot UP! The plastic form in one shoe had started to pierce the fabric, which rubbed against my heel while I walked. THE PAIN! WHY LAWD! So I threw my old shoes away (finally) and waited for the new pair to arrive before going back to the gym!
Wednesday (the 27th), I rolled up to FootLocker like a G to pick up my new shoes! I don’t remember if I went to the gym that night or waited until the next day. What I do know is I BEEN ON IT EVER SINCE (more or less). This past Tuesday was March 26, 2013. If you’ve visited my Progress page (or read my last update), you know that this date is important because it’s the first set of measurements I have! In short, the last week(ish) has been MY ANNIVERSARY! WHERE IS TONY TONI TONE???!?!?! Where I say!
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! A year ago, I got all super motivated and here I am!
So let me share roughly a year’s worth of progress. The photo on the left was taken April 28, 2012 while I was on vacation in Atlanta. I had lost 2 pounds before going to Atlanta. I gained those back while I was there. The photo on the right is from last Wednesday (March 27th).
WHOA! Let me point out how taken aback I was the first time I looked at these photos side-by-side! So what have I done this past year? I got all kinds of healthy! I got nutritionally, physically, and mentally healthy! I GOT THICK. FINE. and HEALTHY! And here’s how!
I got THICK…I’ve learned so much about food and how it works with my body. A year ago if you mentioned going vegetarian to me, I would get angry! WHY DON’T YOU WANT ME TO HAVE GLORIOUS MEAT?!!! Now I know meat doesn’t love me anymore. I (try to) eat mostly vegetarian instead. I also eat a lot of foods I’d never eaten before, some I’d never cooked myself, and more I’d never even heard of before. I started clean eating. I started to actually love cooking! Also my skin looks like YES LAWD!
I got FINE…I’ve also learned a lot about how exercise helps the body. A year ago I could barely run 30 seconds without feeling like I was dying. DYING! Now…well I still feel like I’m dying when I run sometimes but only if I forget to take my inhaler first. But even without my inhaler, it’ll be a good 30 minutes of “Two and Ones” before I get to that point! Walking for an hour straight is no longer a problem. I look forward to going to the gym. I complete my entire strength routine with 10-pound weights (I started at 2.5- and 5-pound weights) without feeling as if I’ll pass out at the end!
